Juken New Zealand is proud to sponsor Riding for the Disabled (RDA) for their Annual Garden Safari fundraising event.
Formed in 1979, Kaitaia RDA is one of 55 groups under a National Association. It is a Charitable Trust.
The goals are to provide through horse riding – therapy, rehabilitation, education, behaviour modification, social contact and opportunities for sport and recreation. For people with disabilities and diverse needs it has meant an opportunity towards gaining confidence, independence and well-being.
Kaitaia R.D.A. is run by volunteers, many who have been with the group for years. Income is sourced from grants, donations and fundraising and helps pay an equestrian trainer who cares for the horses and assists in maintaining the facility.
The Annual Garden Safari which has been running since 1992 is a major fundraiser with past funds being used to purchase the R.D.A. property in Church Road (this property incorporates a huge indoor arena where regardless of the weather, the great work can continue). Different areas in the Far North district are rotated each year and the Garden Safari event has been a “must do” in many gardening calendars.
This year 11 gardens are on show on the 9th and 10th of November. Tickets are available from Mitre 10, CBEC, and the TeAhu Centre.
